Welcome to Seinäjoki Region in South Ostrobothnia, in Western Finland.

Seinäjoki Region is known for its cultural attractions and summer events. The world-famous South Ostrobothnian architect Alvar Aalto has left his mark on his native district with many significant and unique creations. Provinssirock Festival, Vauhtiajot Race&Rock Festival and Miljoonarock Festival attract thousands of visitors to listen to famous rock bands, while Tango-lovers migrate annually to Seinäjoki Tango Festival to dance on the streets under the midnight sun.

So what is it that makes our region special?

We like to think we have figured that out. In fact, Ostrobothnia is like Scotland in Great Britain – original in its culture, independent as to its attitude, colourful in its history. The secret of our uniqueness lies both in the past and the present. It lurks in the hearts of the Ostrobothnian people, who are reputed to be straight-backed, enterprising and proud of their traditions, dialect and achievements.

"Great Ostrobothnians"

Our ancestors built large red two-story wooden houses just to show their so-called "greatness" to their neighbours – nowadays these "Great Ostrobothnians" establish colossal shopping malls in the middle of a field and call it "the village shop", or build spectacular amusement parks and carting centres in their back yards.

The Kyrönjoki river flows through the wide open plains of Ostrobothnia on its way to the sea.

The wide plains of Ostrobothnia

The wide plains of Ostrobothnia make it easy to breath here - the sky is up high and the horizon far far away. Only the rivers flowing towards the Gulf of Bothnia restrict the view on the countryside. Visit the tourist attractions, market places or shopping malls in the city centre, or take a turn on smaller countryside roads to explore the nature of Ostrobothnia and verdant fields, or get to know genuine Ostrobothnians, who in fact are very friendly and hospitable!

Something for everyone!

For families, we recommend a visit to PowerPark Amusement Park and Ähtäri Zoo. For those looking for relaxation, we suggest a spa holiday in Härmä or in Spa Kivitippu by Lake Lappajärvi. And don't forget to visit Finland's largest VillageShop in Tuuri or the city of Seinäjoki, with plenty of shopping possibilities.

The connections to the Seinäjoki region are good by train, airplane or car. Regardless of the type of holiday you prefer - luxury relaxation, sportive activities or cultural entertainment - you will find it all here. Keep our travelling tips in mind and enjoy open-hearted, Ostrobothnian hospitality.
